FAQ

Here are answers to common questions about how we work, who we serve, and when it makes sense to start the planning process.

What kinds of clients do you typically work with?

We primarily work with families and business owners who are thinking seriously about what happens next with their wealth, responsibilities, and leadership. They often have some planning in place already, but want more clarity, coordination, and confidence around their legacy and succession decisions

How is Legacy Planning Services different from other advisors?

We focus specifically on the moments when ownership, wealth, and responsibility are shifting, rather than trying to be everything to everyone. Our work is centered on helping you make clear, well‑reasoned decisions in those seasons and making sure your plans, documents, and people are aligned around them.

How is the work we do different from traditional financial or legal planning?

Traditional planning often centers on documents and accounts; our work centers on the decisions behind them. We focus on questions like who should lead, how responsibilities should move, and what you want your planning to accomplish for the people who come after you.

Who is a typical client you work with?

We commonly work with families and business owners who want their life insurance decisions to be thoughtful, organized, and free from high‑pressure sales tactics. They care about understanding what they are putting in place and how it affects the people who rely on them. Some clients are choosing coverage for the first time, while others are dealing with more complex situations involving existing policies, businesses, or legacy plans. In both cases, they value careful analysis and clear communication.

When should I start Legacy or Succession planning?

It is best to start before a transition is forced by age, health, or circumstances. If you are beginning to ask who should lead next, how to treat family fairly, or what will happen to the business or estate if something happens to you, it is time to start the planning process.

What does your process look like from start to finish?

We begin by listening and gathering a clear picture of your family, business, current planning, and priorities. From there, we outline a path that may include clarifying your vision, working through specific decisions, and, when appropriate, coordinating with your other advisors to bring everything into alignment.

How long does the planning process usually take?

The timeline depends on how complex your situation is and how many issues you want to address. Some clients focus on one or two pressing questions over a few meetings, while others work with us over a longer season to address legacy, succession, and related planning in a more comprehensive way.

What information do i need to have ready before we meet?

It is helpful to have an overview of your current planning—wills or trusts, business agreements, organizational charts, and any existing summaries from your advisors. Just as important, though, is coming prepared to talk about your priorities, concerns, and what you hope will be true for your family or business in the future

What if my family or business partners are not on the same page?

Many people come to us precisely because there are differing views, unasked questions, or potential points of tension. We help you think through how to communicate, what needs to be addressed now, and how to design plans that are clear enough to reduce confusion and conflict later.

Can you help if I already have documents and plans in place?

Yes. A lot of our work involves reviewing existing plans through a legacy and succession lens. We help you understand what your current documents are set up to do, identify any gaps or unintended consequences, and decide whether adjustments are needed.

Do you work with local clients, or can you work remotely?

We work with both local and non‑local clients. Many engagements can be handled through video meetings and secure document sharing, and we can coordinate with your advisory team wherever they are located.

What is the best next step if I think I might need your help?

The best next step is a short introductory conversation to understand your situation and determine whether we are a good fit. From there, we can outline a potential approach and steps so you can decide if you want to move forward.
